Job Description

J           DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The following represents a list of essential duties and responsibilities.




•        Monitor all day-to-day manufacturing, safety and maintenance.



•        Maintain overall responsibility for the general well being of all company employees. Ensure fair and equal treatment of all employees.



•        Ensure the employees are properly trained for the position they fill, and that the company provides a clean and safe work environment for all employees.



•        Conduct regular performance evaluations annually on any personnel who report directly to the Production/Shop Supervisor.



•        Interview, hire and fire as directed by the President.



•        Reviews and prepares daily/monthly shipping schedule.



•        Gets scheduled daily shipments out the door.



•        Works closely with Operations/Engineering Manager and Quality for any manufacturing/delivery problems or issues.



•        Prepares manpower report for employee's hours, availability and skill level.



•        Manage the shop floor, which includes but is not limited to receiving material, assignment of employee's to jobs and machines.



•        Maximize machine utilization.



•        Review scrap and non-conforming parts working closely with the Quality Department to initiate and solve corrective actions.



•        Take timely continual improvement and corrective actions as necessary to assure that the company remains financial sound, safe, and with limited down time on equipment.



•        Interpret and enforce the company's policies and procedures.



•        Ensure a safe working environment and to comply with GearTec & OSHA regulatory policies and procedures by working closely with the Safety Coordinator.



•        Ensures good housekeeping for a clean and neat facility inside and outside. 



•        Acts as a primary contact for customer related production and delivery issues.



•        Prior to the expiration of the current year’s 12-month operating budget, work with the President and the Management Team to generate a detailed operating budget for the ensuing 12-month period.



•        Ensure open communications within the company including holding meetings and providing written communications relating to company policies, procedures, and general operations.



•        Reports to the Operations/Engineering Manager, normally on a Flash Report copied to the President or in an emergency in person to either or both.


Job Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


To perform this job successfully, this individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.



Education and/or Experience:


•       Bachelor’s Degree from a four year college or university; or 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.



Language Skills:


•       Ability to read and interpret job costing reports, operating reports, and sales reports, plus communicate ideas both verbally and written.   Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, customers, vendors and employees.  Fluent in English is a minimum requirement.




Manufacturing and Engineering Ability


•       Ability to read and interpret drawings with the ability to methodize complex machine parts, specifically gears and shafts for close tolerances work. Strong background in machining, job shop manufacturing and specifically the gear industry is required.



Mathematical Skills:


•      Ability to work with mathematical concepts (geometry, trigonometry, and basic math) and statistical data plus apply concepts such as whole numbers and fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations, able to work with measurement devices.


 


Reasoning Ability:


•      Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


 


Computer Skills:


•       Ability to effectively utilize spreadsheet, database, Windows Office and other computer based tools to enhance overall effectiveness in the position.

Work Environment:


•       While much of the time is spent in a normal office setting, working in the shop entails possible exposure to toxic chemical fumes, airborne particles, possible electric shock, and working with machinery with several moving parts, and a high noise level
