Job Description

The CNC Machinist/Applications Technician – Prototype will independently program, setup and operate a broad range of machine tools to produce a wide variety of metal products in a fast-paced environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

•   Use customer input, prints, and engineering drawings to determine and complete the setups and production of all operating sequences

•   Program, setup, operate, and adjust a broad range of CNC machines as needed to produce product and assure dimensional conformance

•   Verify and document product appearance and dimensional conformity using a wide variety of measurement equipment and tools

•   Understand and use Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and other advanced inspection concepts

•   Work from complex and involved sectionalized and part drawings and specifications

•   Communicate with customer on technical matters

•   Provide technical assistance in quotation process when needed

•   Recommend, design and fabricate work holding devices

•   Creative problem solving and math skills

•   Maintain a clean and orderly work area

•   Manage time effectively and adhere to schedules to meet customer demands

•   Willingness to learn new technologies, and machine tool applications

Job Requirements

•   Ability to work independently with limited supervision

•   Write programs for, setup and operate multiple types of machine tools

•   GibbsCAM or similar CAM software and application to CNC machining

•   Microsoft Windows: Excel, Word, Internet, and E-Mail

•   AutoCAD and SolidWorks preferred

•   Ability to read and analyze blue prints, engineering drawings and specifications and interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in both Imperial and Metric units

•   Able to define problems, collect data, define facts, and draw valid conclusions

•   Manual dexterity sufficient to operate machinery

•   Geometry and Algebra Mathematical Ability


•   Strong oral and written communication

•   Able to effectively present information to managers and customers


Must have high school education or equivalent GED

Graduate of Technical College or full Apprenticeship Program preferred.

5 years minimum CNC programing, setup, and operational experience.


Certificates or diplomas from an accredited college in machining or machine tool technology highly desired.


Duties are performed in an industrial environment. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; moderate noise levels; occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; occasionally exposed to electrical shock hazards.
